Why Work With Calverley Timberworks

Patching missing timber sections and laying down blistered veneer.

Period Matching

We use old timber stock so replacement patches match the colour and density.

Arrested Damage

Fixing loose edges prevents clothing from catching and ripping larger pieces off.

Preserved Value

Proper veneer conservation protects the resale worth of antique furniture.

How We Carry Out Work

  1. 1

    Veneer Re-laying

Blisters are warmed, injected with liquid hide glue, and clamped flat with cauls.

  2. 2

    Patch Cutting

We cut matching wood from our store of old offcuts to align the grain direction.

  3. 3

    Blending

The patch is planed flush, stained by hand, and sealed with matching finish.

Notes From Furniture Owners

★★★★★
Our Georgian dining table had loose legs and heavy ring marks. Julian dismantled the loose mortise joints and revived the walnut grain with linseed oil. It sits firmly on the floor now.

The workshop returned my grandfather's oak armchair wrapped in heavy protective quilts. The wobble in the armrest is completely gone, and the beeswax polish smells fresh.

Clear written quote provided at my flat. The repairs to the cracked mahogany desk top were neatly executed without masking the natural patina of the wood.
